O todo poderoso Pato de Borracha! / The almighty Rubber Duck!

(English version at the end of the post)

Eu, fazendo a minha melhor pose asiática!

For some unknown reason, people in Hong Kong love everything that is little, cartoony and cute. Children AND adults. From the most well-known characters, like Hello Kitty and Stitch (from the Disney movie), to more obscure ones on the other side of the world, like Rilakkuma, a teddy bear which is super popular here in Asia!

Well, I’ve got nothing against that. I do like puppies and teddy bears (despite my severe nose allergy). But it is kind of weird to be in the office and see the desk of some colleagues full of drawing, little toys, stickers, pens, cushions and all sorts of products from these very… interesting characters (cof cof – if your are like, 10 years old) haha!

Hello Kitty, Angry Birds, Doraemon, Rilakkuma and Stitch... there are many others which I don't know the name :P

On this topic, the Rubber Duck Project arrived in Hong Kong a few weeks ago. This is nothing more than a giant rubber duck floating in the water, being displayed in different cities around the world. I even found out that the duck passed through São Paulo a few years ago! Did anyone hear about that? I didn’t.

Anyway, the duck is 16 meters tall and it has the intention of simply being “soft, cuddly, friendly and appropriate for all ages” (as described on the Project’s website). The duck has been a hit here in Hong Kong: 9 out of 10 of my Hong Kong facebook friends have already posted their photos with the duck, hahaha! Unfortunately I was extremely busy these last few weeks, so I didn’t have the chance to see the duck. But since it was paddling the waters right around my office, I had no excuses not to see the famous duck that has been attracting millions of people!

Striking my best Asian pose!

And it is cute indeed! Just chillin’ and relaxing, which thousands of people take pictures of him and his big black eyes. The world it’s its bathtub, lol! You cannot see from the pictures, but right there on the pier there are also lots of smaller ducks for people to touch, hug and take more photos with! I am pretty sure that the Rubber Duck have already joined the list of most beloved characters in Hong Kong…
